Jonas lives in a society where there is no pain, war or real freedom. Everyone follows strict rules and their lives are carefully planned. When Jonas is chosen to become the Receiver of Memory, he begins to learn about the real past from the Giver. He discovers that his society hides many dark secrets. Jonas decides to break the rules and tries to change his life and the lives of others.
